Our trees begin their life in the fields as small seedlings in a nursery like this one..

Prior to planting the individual trees on our plantations, the stumps of last years harvest are ground and the plantation is cultivated to prepare the ground for the new seedlings.

YTF Transplanting.jpg (5545 bytes) The seedling will be two or three years old when they are pulled from the nursery and planted in the fields.  Here is one of our newly planted fields.

The conical or pyramid shape of the tree is determined by the shearing of the neYTF Shearing.jpg (6177 bytes)w growth.  Top cutting and knife shearing begin in the third year of growth in the field until harvested as six to eight year old trees.  Noble fir tops are trained to grow straight.
Harvest time begins in mid November in order to have trees available for our wholesale clients. The use of helicopters makes it possible to cut the trees one day and ship the next.

Loose trees require more loading and unloading time and labor than the palletized trees.

Palletized trees are loaded at the field using tractors and portable ramps.  The on site loading expedites the delivery process and minimizes handling of the trees.
